Vocabulary for First Certificate. Thomas B., Matthews L.
2008. — 137 p.
Cambridge Vocabulary for First
Certificate covers all the vocabulary First Certificate candidates need. It
provides students with practice of exam tasks from the Reading, Writing,
Listening and Use of English papers. It includes useful tips on how to approach
exam tasks and learn vocabulary. It is informed by the Cambridge International
Corpus and the Cambridge Learner Corpus to ensure that the vocabulary is
presented in genuine contexts and covers real learner errors. It is designed to
match the updated exam for December 2008.

What does the book aim to do?
It introduces and practises the most relevant and useful vocabulary that you
need to do well in the First Certificate in English (FCE) exam and then provides
exam tasks in which the vocabulary you have learnt can be re-used and practised.
Who is it aimed at?
The book is designed for students working alone who want to revise and extend
their vocabulary. But it can also be used as part of an FCE course in the
classroom, or set as homework by a teacher.
What order should I do the units in?
You can work through the units in any order, but you should study all the units
if you want to prepare thoroughly for the exam. You may want to start with a
particular unit because it relates to a topic in your coursebook or because you
have a writing task to do on a particular topic.
How do I use the book?
It is best to work through a unit from beginning to end as one exercise may
revise the vocabulary from a previous exercise. The exam practice section
revises vocabulary from the whole unit.
